Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has dropped even more hints about the plot of the upcoming dinosaur sequel. According to some science Trevorrow dropped on /Film, Jurassic World “takes place in a fully functional park on Isla Nublar” that “sees more than 20,000 visitors” a day. The park “has elements of a biological preserve, a zoo, and a theme park,” as well as a “luxury resort with hotels, restaurants, nightlife, and a golf course.” (What could go wrong there?) Of course, there are also dinosaurs, and visitors to the island “can get closer to them than” they ever imagined, presumably meaning that they can get actually in their bellies when the dinosaurs eat them up in one gross bite. Trevorrow calls the island “the realization of John Hammond’s dream” and says that moviegoers will “want to go there.”
Trevorrow also told /Film that the movie has two central themes. One is that we’re too dependent on technology, something that has practically been par for the scriptwriting course for the past 20-odd years but will manifest itself in this movie with “a teenager texting his girlfriend with his back to a T-Rex behind protective glass.” The second theme is that “money has been the gasoline in the engine of our biggest mistakes,” another idea that’s not exactly novel but could be interesting. According to Trevorrow, “if there are billions to be made, no one can resist them, even if they know things could end horribly.”
Trevorrow also debunked some plot rumors. For instance, lead actor Chris Pratt won’t be teaching the dinosaurs tricks. Rather, he’ll be doing boring old research on them, something that’s not nearly as fun as anything Andy Dwyer would imagine. He also said that the film will add a new dinosaur not yet discovered or invented, but that it won’t be anything ridiculous, but rather just something that’s “bigger, louder, and with more teeth.”
