Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom roars its way into a very elite box-office club

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has combined the DNA of a velociraptor with the DNA of a movie that makes a ton of fucking money, and the results are clear.

After two straight weekends of demolishing the competition like hot lava steamrolling over everything in its path, the second film in the new round of movies about humans creating dinosaurs and then getting mauled by them in spectacular fashion has now claimed another noteworthy title: entrance into the $1 billion club. Only the 35th movie ever to make more than one billion dollars at the global box office, it joins the first Jurassic World, which ended its theatrical run with $1.7 billion. With $304.8 million of that coming from North America alone, it’s clear American audiences are still eager to watch the devastation that results from setting up a bunch of dominoes, and then letting CGI dinosaurs stomp the living shit out of them.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will undoubtedly end its reign at the top of the box office this weekend, thanks to Ant-Man And The Wasp. It will not, however, end its time haunting our minds with the image of that brontosaurus on Isla Nublar. No spoilers here, but you know exactly which shot we’re talking about.
