Just to be clear, Dave Mustaine did not actually endorse Rick Santorum, says Dave Mustaine

In another convincing demonstration of Dave Mustaine's political power in Washington D.C. and beyond, the Megadeth frontman's seeming endorsement of Republican presidential candidate/infamous Google search term Rick Santorum made headlines yesterday, along with causing confusion and consternation among the band's many, many gay fans. But Mustaine isn't ready to throw his full support behind Santorum just yet, according to a statement issued to media outlets.

"Contrary to how some people have interpreted my words, I have not endorsed any presidential candidate. What I did say was that I hope to see a Republican in the White House.  I've seen good qualities in all the candidates but by no means have made my choice yet.  I respect the fact that Santorum took time off from his campaign to be with his sick daughter, but I never used the word 'endorse.'"

So, to sum up: Mustaine agrees with Santorum's pro-sick daughter stance, but will continue to study the candidates before telling the masses who to vote for. In the meantime, we are still waiting for word from Scott Ian and Kerry King. [via Rolling Stone]
