Justin Roiland promises no more massive "chasms" between seasons of Rick And Morty

Recognizing that he’s managed to draw the mostly positive—if still worryingly fervent—passion and attention of a fanbase that doesn’t do super well with delayed gratification, Justin Roiland has decided to make it very clear that there won’t be any more big gaps between seasons of his beloved-not-just-by-assholes-but-also-yes-by-assholes animated series Rick And Morty. This is per Polygon, which reports that Roiland doesn’t anticipate any more huge gaps in the show’s schedule, at least none as big as the 18-month one that tested everybody’s patience in between its second and third seasons.

Of course, the biggest rate-limiting step in the show’s production has always been the output levels—and general anxious perfectionism—of co-creators Dan Harmon and Roiland himself. But hopefully the massive 70-episode season order that Adult Swim just dropped on them will ease up some of their uncertainty and worry.

“We‘re super excited that, for the first time ever, we’re locked in, we know what the future is, we have job security,” said Roiland, who was at E3 this week to show off his new game, Trover Saves The Universe. “Harmon is in great spirits, we have a great writer’s room. We want the episodes to stay good, but we do also want to try to turn them around a little quicker now that we have this big order, I think it gives us the ability to be faster. We’re not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in between seasons anymore. We’re going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It’s going to be really cool.” It’s no “Rick and Morty forever, 100 years, Rick and Morty, Rick and Morty.com” maybe, but it does seem a little more sustainable as a work-life-balance strategy, at least.
