Kaboom! exclusive: Adventure Time Comics invites industry vets and rising stars to Ooo
Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time has developed a deep relationship with the comic-book world in the six years since its debut. The series has employed many cartoonists as writers, storyboard artists, and designers, and Kaboom! has published a plethora of Adventure Time comics and graphic novels starring Finn, Jake, and the other colorful characters of Ooo. The back-up features in the main Adventure Time ongoing series have given exciting talents the opportunity to tell short stories set in this world, and Kaboom! is expanding on that idea with Adventure Time Comics, a new anthology series featuring multiple shorts in each issue.
The first issue of Adventure Time Comics features stories by Gronk’s Katie Cook, Tiny Titans’ Art Baltazar, and Maakies’ Tony Millionaire, with a Nick Pitarra cover homage to Action Comics #1 that spotlights how different artistic sensibilities reinterpret these designs. Millionaire is a particularly intriguing name in this lineup, and his distinctive art style and talent for balancing light and dark story elements make him a great choice to offer a unique take on this cast and their universe.
Future contributors to Adventure Time Comics include Jeffrey Brown, Terry Moore, Kelly Thompson, and Box Brown, and the eclectic group assembled for this title shows that Kaboom! is really taking advantage of the variety of voices in the comics industry. Readers can discover how these creators approach Pendleton Ward’s creation when Adventure Time Comics #1 hits stands on July 27, but in the meantime, Kaboom! has provided The A.V. Club with solicitation info, Pitarra’s cover, and a first look at Cook’s pages for the debut issue.
