Kaitlin Olson and Lake Bell to play Cassius And Clay in new series from Archer creator
Driven by the success of Archer, FX is steering around the animated roadkill (Chozen and Unsupervised, anyone?) littering its lineup and moving forward with another pilot from Floyd County Productions, the company behind the hit spy spoof. This time it’s Cassius And Clay, an action/buddy comedy hybrid that sounds like a mashup of Laverne & Shirley and Mad Max: Fury Road.
Former Community writer Megan Ganz will co-write and executive produce the pilot with Archer creator Adam Reed and his Floyd County Productions partner Matt Thompson. It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Kaitlin Olson and Lake Bell (Children’s Hospital) have been cast as the titular duo, described as Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid-inspired bandits. Olson will play Ordwood Cassius, a drunk who runs her mouth opposite Bell’s Shopcarter Clay, an ace gunslinger. Cassius and Clay put up with and look out for each other in the post-apocalyptic Southern town of Wilke.
Rounding out the pilot cast are Susan Sarandon as Connie Mack, a brothel and saloon owner (not the baseball guy); JB Smoove and Kevin Michael Richardson as Doc Benz and Smiffy, the town’s doctor and blacksmith, respectively; and Jeffrey Tambor as Waitstill Weeks, the witless mayor of Wilke. And because no animated show set in the South would be right without Stephen Root, the erstwhile Bill Dauterive will play a genial preacher named Preacher. Oh, and Robert Patrick will voice tax collector Reever Grint, a seeming combination of his Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Sons of Anarchy roles.
