Kanye West demotes Waves to “one of the greatest” albums ever
Showing the same level of discernment that led him to challenge MTV’s ruling on the Best Female Video of 2009, Kanye West is revising his recent declaration that the forthcoming Waves is the “best album of all time.” West, who presumably had a moment of quiet reflection following his moment of hubris, shared the news of the album’s demotion with his Twitter followers on Tuesday night. The platinum-selling artist clarified that Waves, which was recently re-baptized amid some controversy, isn’t the best album ever, it’s “one of the greatest albums” ever. The platinum-selling artist led his correction with the ever-deferential “Out of respect”:
Out of respect for Q-Tip, Puff, Hov, Lauren, Pharcyde, Mary, Stevie, Michael, Hendrix, James, Pete Rock, Pac, Marvin….

this new album is ONE of the greatest albums not the greatest just one of …
— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) February 3, 2016
So many musicians touch my life and made me who I am… I want to make something great to honor my idols…

This three-tweet retraction displays exactly the kind of nuance and amenability we’ve come to expect from Kanye, who’s been known to temper his snide remarks with sartorial compliments. Following his admission, West slunk off into the Hall Of Greats to join fellow champions Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Jimi Hendrix, into whose company he’d ever so humbly just placed himself.
