Kanye West, Raekwon, and Justin Bieber united through the magic of Twitter
According to Kanye West’s Twitter feed—which moves one day closer to replacing the Associated Press—a seemingly jokingly proposed collaboration between West, Raekwon, and Justin Bieber has become an all-too-real remix of Bieber’s “Runaway Love.” The unlikely supergroup found each other after West tweeted that he’d been listening to “Runaway Love” on repeat, prompting Bieber to reply that he was “hyped u are listening to my stuff.” Thus began a back-and-forth game of mutual admiration that culminated in West suggesting that they “do something together. Me, You and Raekwon.” To Bieber’s credit, he responded that “me, u, and the chef” getting together on a song would be “EPIC,” revealing that he knows enough to refer to Raekwon as “The Chef,” which is sort of impressive. (Perhaps this stuff was covered during his swagger lessons.) Then Raekwon got involved, telling XXL, “Yeezy called me and we gon' make it pop… And we gon' make a hit. Justin got his own fan base, and me and Yeezy got our own fan base, and we gon' make it happen. We gon' make a good record.” He also added, "I think, at the end of the day, shorty is a sensation," which we're fairly certain is the highest praise one can give a shorty.
And while we obviously haven’t heard it yet, we can confirm that they apparently did make something: This morning, West tweeted, “Finishing @JustinBieber Runaway Love remix too… don't know when they gonna drop it but Raekwon's verse is crazy!!!” So there’s that. You know, in the days before Twitter, this project never would have gotten any further than a few shout-outs and vague promises in interviews. Have you written Biz Stone a thank-you letter today? (On a side note: Were it not for Justin Bieber and Kanye West’s Twitter feed, the showbiz news cycle obviously would have come to a shuddering halt sometime around May.)
