What began as a bizarre Kanye West moment last night turned even stranger when news broke that Kim Kardashian West was robbed at gunpoint in Paris. Collective eyebrows were raised when West stopped a New York concert mid-“Heartless,” citing a “family emergency.” But following that mysterious incident, reports emerged that Kardashian West was the victim of a robbery at the ritzy private apartment where she was staying. According to Reuters, masked men held a gun to her temple, tied her up, and locked her in the bathroom while they stole around 10 million euros worth of jewelry. There were five perpetrators dressed as police officers, who gained access to Kardashian West’s dwelling after handcuffing a concierge, CNN reports. Two of the men entered the room and also took two cellphones in addition to all the bling.
Kardashian West’s publicist issued a statement that she was “badly shaken but physically unharmed.” She has since left Paris, but did reportedly speak with authorities. Already this has become a political incident in the city, with Mayor Anne Hidalgo commenting, per The Hollywood Reporter, that “it in no way affects the safety of Parisian public spaces.” Kardashian West was in town for Fashion Week along with other members of her famous brood, who were reportedly lodged at a different hotel.
