Kanye West uses naked celebrities to say something about fame in new video

Kanye West has done it again! And by “it,” we mean that he has done something specifically designed to court controversy that—depending on how you feel about him—may or may not have some deeper meaning. This time, he’s made a video for his song “Famous” that includes lifelike recreations of a whole bunch of famous people laying naked together on a bed, and West being the master marketer that he is, they include some pretty big names that are sure to send this thing up the Twitter charts.

There’s West himself and Kim Kardashian, of course, but also Chris Brown, Rihanna, Caitlyn Jenner, Bill Cosby, and (also of course) Taylor Swift, who he references in the song with the line, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? / I made that bitch famous.” The whole thing is filmed with low-fi close-ups and weird, quick cuts that give it all a creepy, voyeuristic feel that’s predictably unsettling, and it ends with a list of the celebrities included and a message acknowledging them “for being famous.”

As for the deeper meaning here, West explained in a chat with Vanity Fair (via Pitchfork) that it’s—if you can believe this—”a comment on fame.” You can see the video for yourself at this link, but you’ll need a Tidal account to do so.
