Karate Kid sequel currently being manufactured
Columbia has begun assembling the sequel to 2010’s Jaden Smith-starring The Karate Kid, because that is what they made a Karate Kid remake and a Jaden Smith for, and in either case it would be a waste of precious resources to do otherwise. Screenplay duties have been passed to Alphas creator Zak Penn, whose work on Elektra, The Incredible Hulk, and X-Men: The Last Stand demonstrates that he’s comfortable with franchise properties. Ergo, he and Jaden should get along just fine. So far there are no plot details, although Variety says that Jackie Chan is also expected to reprise his role as the kindly kung fu master who watches proudly as his Karate Kid slowly becomes a Karate Man. As will we all. As will we all.
