KardBlock bars online mentions of Kim Kardashian
The title of Kanye West’s next album might be a tribute to his wife, reality TV mainstay Kim Kardashian. Meanwhile, the Wests were conspicuously absent at the much-hyped bought between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, sparking rumors that the couple is working on having a second child. And the dress Kardashian wore on Jimmy Kimmel Live! while promoting Selfish, her new book of selifes, failed the notorious “sit test,” according to Pop Sugar. These are among the “news” items that readers might well have avoided, if only they had downloaded KardBlock, a new browser extension by James Shamsi and Chameleon.la which promises its users a Kardashian-free web experience.
On its homepage, KardBlock makes its mission statement bold and unambiguous. “We don’t care about who the Kardashians are or aren’t sleeping with,” it says. “We don’t care that Kim dyed her hair blonde. We don’t care about the Kardashians.” For users who share James Shamsi and company’s utter lack of interest in Kim and her nasally-sounding clan, KardBlock promises to remove any Kardashian-related items from newsfeeds and websites, adding somewhat ominously, “We simply make it disappear.” KardBlock claims that its goal is to help users “see more of the real issues,” but this high-minded altruism seems unnecessary. For millions of anguished readers, weary from years of ceaseless Kardashian updates, the simple joy of a Kardashian-free newsfeed is its own reward. Consider the internet officially unbroken.
