Karl Urban replaces Michael C. Hall in the Pete’s Dragon remake

Dredd and Star Trek’s Karl Urban has been cast in Disney’s Pete’s Dragon remake, which continues to be a thing that’s happening. Urban joins the cast just as the previously announced Michael C. Hall departs due to “scheduling conflicts,” possibly Hall’s attachment to the former Stanley Kubrick project God Fearing Man. It’s also possible that those Dexter spin-off rumors are true, and he’s once again been sucked down into the inescapable quicksand of TV’s most durable lumberjacking serial killer.

Urban will be joining several previously announced cast members, including Wes Bentley, Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Oakes Fegley as Pete. Given the timing of the casting notice, we’re assuming he’ll be taking on Hall’s vacated role, about which details are scarce. Extrapolating from the two men cast for the part, though, we’re guessing it’s some kind of dragon-hunting, serial-killing space cop out for blood, just like you remember from the original.
