Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny to star in Whit Stillman’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s Lady Susan

As reported by Deadline, the director and stars of 1998’s The Last Days Of Disco are getting back together, but this time it’s not for a romp around Manhattan’s nightclub scene in the early-’80s. Instead, it will be a romp around England’s nightclub scene in the late-1790s, as the film will be an adaptation of Jane Austen’s posthumously published novella Lady Susan. Titled Love & Friendship, the film will be directed by Whit Stillman and star Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny as Lady Susan and her friend Alicia, respectively. The plot follows Lady Susan—a “beautiful widow”—who visits her in-laws’ house so she can “wait out colorful rumors about her dalliances circulating through polite society.” Did we mention it’s a Jane Austen adaptation? Twlight‘s Xavier Samuel will play “the object of Lady Susan’s affections,” and Stephen Fry will join him as Chloë Sevigny’s “long-suffering husband.”
