The Martian continues to rack up potential female cast members, which seems strange for a story about one man stranded on Mars. Okay, there’s much more to it than that, but Matt Damon was cast as the male lead months ago, and apparently there are more than a few female characters. Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig are already in talks for supporting roles, and now House Of Cards’ Kate Mara has been added to that list. Mara recently wrapped on her gritty, realistic Sue Storm/Invisible Woman role on the Fantastic Four reboot.
Ridley Scott is set to direct the sci-fi “Apollo 13 meets Castaway” film, based on Andy Weir’s critically acclaimed e-book (and later tangible book) of the same name. The Martian tells the story of an astronaut accidentally left behind on Mars who must survive long enough for his crew to return and rescue him. Even though Damon is the only confirmed actor so far, audiences can expect to see The Martian in theaters on November 25, 2015.
