Kate McKinnon’s new web series is about notaries, because why not

Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon, along with her sister Emily Lynne, have co-created an original webseries for IFC.com and Above Average. Called Notary Publix, the webseries, which McKinnon and Lynne also star in, is about, well, two notaries. Series guest stars include Beck Bennett, Jay Pharoah, Paula Pell, and other SNL stars and writers.

The first episode, available now, follows notaries Fina and Theresa Fra Diavolo as they try to decide whether to sign the papers for their archrival Erin Oatmeal, who is trying to adopt 53 orphans with only one form of identification. If the sheer absurdity of that premise isn’t enough to hook you, perhaps you’ll be swayed by the fact that Oatmeal is played by Aidy Bryant aka Lil’ Baby Aidy.

Notary publics aren’t exactly thought of as comedic fodder, but if anyone can take something boring and make it hilarious, it’s McKinnon.

Notary Publix’s six-episode first season will come in the form of new episodes every other Tuesday.
