Katey Sagal to be married (with child she gave up for adoption) for CBS
Katey Sagal is taking a break from the brooding basic-cable dramas that occupied her time for the past eight years—first on Sons Of Anarchy and then (briefly) on The Bastard Executioner—to return to the genre that introduced her to the world all the way back in 1987, when she first squeezed herself into a pair of leopard-print stretch pants. According to Deadline, the former Married… With Children star will play the matriarch in a single-camera pilot for CBS, based on the Australian comedy series Upper Middle Bogan.
The as-yet-untitled family sitcom is about a wife and mother who learns that she was adopted, and that her biological parents are eccentric professional drag-racers. John Carroll Lynch will play Wayne, the woman’s biological father, while Sagal has been cast as his wife Julie, who has to assume Wayne’s drag-racing responsibilities after he’s injured. This will be Sagal’s first lead role in a comedy since 8 Simple Rules, but she recently eased herself back into sitcoms as the mother of Jake Peralta on Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
