Kathy Griffin leaves Fashion Police after seven episodes

Kathy Griffin joined the cast of E!’s Fashion Police, the show where a panel of experts criticize what famous people are wearing—with hilarious results!—after the program returned from a long hiatus following the death of host Joan Rivers. After a premiere that failed to crack a million viewers and a handful of similarly under-performing episodes, longtime cast member Kelly Osbourne left the show. And now, as quickly as she arrived, Kathy Griffin has departed as well.

As is made clear in her great many TV specials, mocking celebrities has been a staple of Griffin’s comedy for pretty much the length of her career, so it seemed like she would fit right in with the gang at Fashion Police. However, it appears that she didn’t approve of the show’s tone, something she discussed in a lengthy goodbye tweet:

“I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance toward difference,” she wrote. “I want to help women, gay kids, people of color and anyone who feels underrepresented to have a voice and a LAUGH!…After 7 episodes of Fashion Police, I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show & now it’s time to move on.”

With Griffin gone, remaining cast members Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski will have to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance toward difference by themselves.
