Katie Holmes to play a wealthy socialite in new ABC pilot
Katie Holmes is returning to TV. The erstwhile Joey Potter has been cast in an untitled ABC pilot written by Behind The Candelabra’s Richard LaGravenese. The New York-set series explores a high-society marriage and the perverse games of wealthy socialites. According to TV Line, Holmes will plan Ann, a married woman “of education and breeding, who has never used those advantages for power over others.” While she’s busy running a philanthropic foundation and generally being the most wonderful woman to walk the face of the earth, Rufus Sewell’s Philip makes a bet with Margot (a still-uncast role) to try to destroy Ann’s marriage. It sounds a bit like a modern-day Dangerous Liaisons—or perhaps a super high-stakes Dawson’s Creek, which hopefully means Holmes will have to win back her husband with a moody, breathy ballad the Internet can mock forever.
