Keanu Reeves is a wanted man in the first trailer for John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum
In the original John Wick and its sequel, the eponymous super-assassin’s greatest advantage against the dudes who mean to do him harm is that he plays by the rules. In the first movie, when his dog is killed and his car stolen, the larger assassin community mostly steps aside and allows him to enact his revenge because the people who wronged him didn’t follow the rules. In the sequel, a bad guy pulls Wick out of retirement to do some bad stuff, but Wick’s conscience is clean because he’s only following the rules. Unfortunately, even the most strict rule-followers slip now and again, and the franchise’s second installment found Wick inviting an entire community of assassins on his ass.
That brings us to John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum, which sees Keanu Reeves on the run and, as its first trailer demonstrates, using a grace period of one hour to turn to the few allies he still has left. That includes new cast members Anjelica Huston, from whom he seeks refuge, and an old acquaintance in Halle Berry’s Sofia, who, in a fitting twist, brings with her a gang of lethal doggos.
Still, there’s a $14 million open contract on his life and a horde of independent assassins on his tail that include The Raid’s Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif, who, let’s say, know a thing or two about hand-to-hand combat.
The full trailer, which is brilliantly set to Andy Williams’ “The Impossible Dream,” is above. Watch closely to see Wick killing a guy with a book.
John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum will be in theaters on May 17.
