Keegan-Michael Key gives a grim, post-Trump victory weather report

America might be headed for a patch of rough weather if it elects Donald Trump to its highest political office on November 8, with “massive construction fronts” along the Mexican border, an angry, red “high blood pressure front” forming in the Midwest, and even a “nuclear winter” blowing in from a southeasterly direction. That’s the message of “Weather,” a brief satirical video from Joss Whedon’s super PAC, Save The Day, which is currently in the midst of a voter registration drive. The 96-second spot stars Keegan-Michael Key of Key & Peele as a morning show weather forecaster who maintains his chipper, upbeat demeanor in the grand tradition of Willard Scott even as he predicts the end of “all sentient life on the continent within the first 100 days.”

“Down south,” Key explains, “that’s gonna push civil unrest back to the mid-to-early ’60s.” The weather metaphor is especially apt, as Trump is an avowed nonbeliever in climate change, dismissing it as an elaborate, malicious hoax. “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese,” the real estate mogul tweeted, “in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”

The message of the Save The Day video is simple: Either get out and vote on November 8 or be prepared to deal with the consequences. A cautionary example is provided by Key’s co-host, Tammy, an anchorwoman who bursts into tears at the sight of a map of the United States engulfed in thick, ominous smoke. But the weatherman is unsympathetic: “Tammy, you voted for Jill Stein, you thoughtless ass! Now suck it up like the rest of us. Back to you, Jim!” Even under the worst circumstances, Key’s forecaster is a true broadcast professional.
