The beating heart of Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair’s Playing House has always been the friendship between the creators’ protagonists, Maggie and Emma. But as far as romance goes, the pair to watch is Emma and Keegan-Michael Key’s policeman Mark. Last season ended with their future up in the air, but when the show returns tomorrow, you’ll find them together and attempting to have a sexy evening. However, Mark’s—shall we say—experimental cooking is perhaps getting in the way of that. Rice Krispies-coated chicken? A microwaved banana? We’ll pass.
The third season—which premieres on USA Friday at 11 p.m. ET—also features a storyline inspired by St. Clair’s own cancer diagnosis, but this clip is proof that even as the show inches closer to that serious territory, it remains silly and sweet.
