Keira Knightley refuses to grow up in the trailer for Laggies
Introducing Endless Mode: A New Games & Anime Site from Paste
The trailer for the new indie dramedy Laggies plays out like a light-hearted Young Adult or perhaps a female-driven Garden State. Either way, Keira Knightley has some serious arrested development issues—and an American accent—as her messy life leads her to befriend a teenager (played by Chloë Grace Moretz) and temporarily move into her bedroom, much to the dismay of the girl’s father (Sam Rockwell). While director Lynn Shleton has previously used on-set improvisation in her films Humpday and Your Sister’s Sister, here she’s working with a script from novelist Andrea Seigel. Our own A.A. Dowd saw the film at this year’s Sundance and summed it up by saying, “Given [the film’s] basic premise, it’s something of a miracle that Laggies isn’t completely insufferable. That it manages to occasionally charm is thanks almost entirely to Shelton’s ease with the actors.” The film opens October 24.
