Kelly Clarkson enjoys "I endorsed Ron Paul" sales bump

Kelly Clarkson surprised, confused, and even angered some fans last week when she professed her love of Ron Paul on her WhoSay account, writing that "if he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he's got my vote. Too bad he probably won't." When fans objected about Paul's positions on gay rights and the death penalty, Clarkson wrote a followup post stating her support of "gay rights, straight rights, women's rights, men's rights, white/black/purple/orange rights" while reiterating her support of the Texas congressman "because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country." While some Clarkson fans disapprove, the endorsement actually helped the singer's record sales over the weekend. Clarkson's album Stronger shot up the charts on both Amazon and iTunes within a day of the endorsement, apparent evidence of the "I support Ron Paul" bump. Clearly Clarkson and Paul buy into the theme of independence, whether it's from the political mainstream or no-good exes. [via Rolling Stone]
