Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly sets Spotify streaming record

Even though Kendrick Lamar told everyone to “keep calm” when his new album leaked early, it seems like people have done the exact opposite. To Pimp A Butterfly was apparently streamed 9.6 million times on the first day of its availability, a new “global record” according to streaming service Spotify. This comes just a month after Drake’s surprise mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late drew 17.3 million streams in three days, setting a new Spotify record for most streams of an album in its first week. The music streaming giant and Kendrick are likely pleased with the initial response, but that’s nothing compared to the excitement of common fans like Kanye West.
