Kevin Costner no longer training slaves, at least not for Quentin Tarantino

Kevin Costner has given up on training slaves to be vicious “mandingo” fighters, and also dropped out of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. Ho ho, we are insinuating that Kevin Costner, grass-fed pride of the heartland, moonlights as a slave trainer when not crafting alt-country ballads! The juxtaposition is amusing—or it would have been had Costner accepted the role. Instead, Variety’s Justin Kroll reports that Costner has been forced to pass due to scheduling conflicts, either because of his commitments to the History Channel miniseries Hatfields And McCoys and his directorial effort A Little War Of Our Own, or because all his slaves back home aren’t going to train themselves. The search is now on for another likably all-American actor to join confirmed cast members Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, and Gerald McRaney, and play off their public image by starring as a total sadist. Like maybe Dennis Quaid, provided he’s not too busy throwing acid in people’s faces for kicks. [via Coming Soon]
