Kevin Spacey to play Winston Churchill, for some reason

After spending two seasons playing a politician of the dastardly variety on House Of Cards, Kevin Spacey is now set to portray one of the most lauded political figures of the 20th century: Winston Churchill. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spacey is attached to star in Captain Of The Gate, a new biopic about the two-time British Prime Minister who led the country during World War II. Ben Kaplan—who’s written several documentary movies and TV series for the History Channel—will pen the script. The project is still looking for a director.

Churchill is best known for his steadfast refusal to consider surrender during WWII, especially during the period when Britain was the only nation fighting against Nazi forces. Winston was 65 years old when he become Prime Minister, and by the time the war ended, he was 71. While Spacey is not the right age, body type, or nationality for the iconic figure, this is still somehow less weird than that time a 45-year-old Spacey cast himself as a 23-year-old Bobby Darin in Beyond The Sea.
