Kick back and welcome summer TV with The Cannibal In The Jungle
Top pick
The Cannibal In The Jungle (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.): Ahhh, summer television. We missed and feared you so much. Tonight, Animal Planet brings us the perfect example by kicking off “Monster Week” with its original telefilm The Cannibal In The Jungle, in which “an American scientist is charged with killing and eating two colleagues in Indonesia in 1977, but claims a mysterious, prehistoric creature is responsible for their deaths, which leads to future media investigations that could validate his story.” Bless.
Also noted
Game Of Thrones (HBO, 9 p.m.): We could copy/paste the summary here (“Sansa reaches out to Theon; Jon senses conflict is near”), but all anyone is wondering about Game Of Thrones is a) dragons? and b) just how unpleasant is this week gonna be? Erik Adams and Myles McNutt are on hand to find out.
National Memorial Day Concert (PBS, 7 p.m.): “Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise host the annual tribute to America’s military heroes.” That’s….all we’ve got.
The Lizzie Borden Chronicles (Lifetime, 10 p.m.): The first season finale brings Lizzie to Boston while Emma “tries to ease tensions” with an “impetuous sacrifice.” If this is setting up a Heathers-inspired second season, we are down.
Regular coverage
Happyish (Showtime, 9:30 p.m.)
Silicon Valley (10 p.m.)
Salem (WGN, 10 p.m.)
Penny Dreadful (Showtime, 10 p.m.)
Veep (10:30 p.m.)
Also noted
Battle Creek (CBS, 10 p.m.): The first season finale leads to some shocking revelations, as first season finales are wont to do.
#RichKids Of Beverly Hills (E!, 10 p.m.): The third season premiere of a show you could just watch on Instagram.
American Odyssey (NBC, 10 p.m.): Is still on!
Texas Rising (History, 10 p.m.): George makes camp in the bush while being stalked by an enemy. And so it goes.
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (TNT, 6 p.m.): We once spent a perfectly decent plane ride watching this movie about modern day Olympian teens, so we figure it could make for a perfectly decent Sunday, too.
Nascar Special: Coca Cola 600 (Fox, 5:30 p.m.): NASCAR would like five hours of your time. NASCAR would like to buy you a Coke.
In case you missed it
Orphan Black: After being less enthusiastic than she’d like to be about this third season, Caroline Framke liked last night’s episode very much a lot.
