Kiefer Sutherland will finally become the president in new ABC drama
For years, Kiefer Sutherland played Jack Bauer on Fox’s 24 and went on thrilling real-time rampages in the name of protecting these United States Of America. Sure, people got killed and some stuff blew up, but Sutherland always got the job done and he wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty with the occasional use of “enhanced interrogation techniques.” Basically, he’s the sort of guy who should be the president (in an extremely fantastical universe where action hero-types actually make good presidents).
Finally, we’re going to get a chance to see what the Sutherland Presidency would look like thanks to Designated Survivor, a new “conspiracy thriller drama” on ABC. This comes from Deadline, which reports that Sutherland will star in the series as a “lower level United States Cabinet member” who becomes the president when everyone ahead of him in the line of succession is killed in some kind of “catastrophic attack.” Designated Survivor was written by Safe House’s David Guggenheim, and it’ll be executive produced by X-Men: Apocalypse writer/producer Simon Kinberg.
Now let’s go back to the real world, where some of the people actually running for president would probably be villains if they were on 24.
