Killer Mike does not take kindly to people rushing the stage
A performance by Run The Jewels at this year’s SXSW was briefly interrupted when a man rushed the stage and accosted the band. In video of the incident, the anonymous man aggressively stalks toward Run The Jewels’ Killer Mike and El-P during their set at the festival’s Spotify House.
As readers of this web site might know, though, Killer Mike isn’t just a talented rapper and fiery advocate for equality; he’s also a devoted student of martial arts and action movies. (This is a man whose response to the idea of putting a padlock in a pillowcase and beating a dude with it was, “It just reinvented the lock for me.”) So it’s not altogether surprising that the response from Killer Mike, El-P, and the Run The Jewels security team was to rush the interloper from the stage. The band then taunted the interrupter by leading the crowd in a chant of “fuck boy,” whatever that means. The gig then continued, sans further incident, with El-P later posting an apology for the interruption on his Twitter.
Anyway, you might want to add a new entry to your little book of pop-culture tips: Never play pool with someone named after a state, don’t let anyone whose name is an anagram for Dracula near your neck, and don’t mess with a guy with “Killer” right there in his self-chosen moniker.
Here’s footage of the incident, followed by Killer Mike’s response. The latter video may not be safe for work, depending on your workplace’s stance on shouting “fuck boy” over and over at maximum volume.
