Killing Eve recruits a new head writer, new directors for season 2

The shadowy cabal that’s really pulling the strings over at BBC America is already hard at work on a new season of Killing Eve, which is currently shooting somewhere in Europe, according to Variety. And with series creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s career blowing up bigger than a block of C-4 in a designer handbag—Bridge is also currently working on the second season of her other show, the also highly recommended Fleabag, as well as developing a new show called Run for HBO—she’s handing over her position as head writer to another woman.

That woman is Emerald Fennell, best known internationally for her roles as Nurse Patsy Mount on Call The Midwife and as Elsa in 2015's The Danish Girl. Fennell is also a published novelist who has written three children’s books and one darkly comedic YA thriller called Monsters, which seems to have seriously fucked up some of the people who reviewed it on Amazon. Joining Fennell on the Killing Eve team are two new directors: Lisa Brühlmann, a Swiss newcomer whose “Raw but with mermaids” film Blue My Mind made its international premiere at last year’s Fantastic Fest, and Francesca Gregorini, an Italian-American director who helmed the “Human Is” episode of Amazon’s Black Mirror competitor Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.

BBC America has yet to set a premiere date for Killing Eve season two, but co-star Sandra Oh recently made history as the first Asian woman to be nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama. We’ll be cheering her on during the live Emmys telecast on September 17.
