Killing Eve renewed for a third season, gets a new showrunner

It hasn’t even been a full 24 hours since the second season premiere aired and Killing Eve fans have already received some very exciting news: Eve Polastri and Villanelle live to continue their sexually charged – and inevitably implosive – chase for a third season.

The third season also comes with a new showrunner. Per a press release from BBC America, Suzanne Heathcote (Fear Of The Walking Dead) will take over the reins from current head writer Emerald Fennell, who stepped in for Phoebe Waller-Bridge this go-round. The change of hands continues the established tradition of utilizing female creative voices to tell this particular story of an impassioned M16 agent and her target, a female assassin who is a bit of a loose cannon.

“We love having this show and the brilliant Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw on our networks,” said Sarah Barnett, President, Entertainment Networks for AMC Networks. “Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Emerald Fennell have delivered two addictively entertaining seasons. As we did last year, we’re renewing Killing Eve right out of the gate, now with Suzanne Heathcote as lead writer, as a sign of confidence – we adore this show as much as our fans do. Killing Eve doesn’t do anything in a templated way; we love giving opportunity to three genius women to make their mark.”

Now would probably be a great time to acquaint yourself with the powerful dynamic that is Oh, Comer, and Shaw. The eight-episode first season is available on Hulu and you can check out Sunday’s second season premiere on the BBC site. All new fans are welcome, just pardon the smell.
