Kingdom throws its last punch

Kingdom throws its last punch

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, August 2. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Kingdom (Audience, 8 p.m.): It’s been three years worth of hard knocks, but DirecTV’s Kingdom is finally hitting the mat for the last time, and Danette Chavez will be there to ring the final bell. After last week’s tragic surprise ending, there will presumably be a lot of ground to cover—even more so than there already was—so now would be a good time to place your bets on whether there’ll be more tears shed or punches thrown by the end of “Lie Down In The Light.”

Regular coverage

Broadchurch (BBC America, 10 p.m.)
Snowfall (FX, 10 p.m.)

Wild card

Baroness Von Sketch Show (IFC, 10 p.m.)

Sketch shows have a built-in hit or miss ratio, often fluctuating wildly in quality from one scene to the next. And that’s not even factoring in the chemistry between a cast, and whether the particular comedic tone of one troupe connects with the viewer more than another, and so on. Nonetheless, Baroness Von Sketch Show, the new offering from IFC, looks promising, if only because the brief excerpts from the ads consistently made us laugh, which is a good sign. Here’s hoping the rest of it follows suit.
