Kinski: Down Below It's Chaos
The long-running brainchild of married Seattleites Chris Martin and Lucy Atkinson, Kinski is a usually instrumental heavy-psych-rock quartet given to blurry, epic guitars cutting through glowering pummel. Kinski's new Down Below It's Chaos isn't quite up to 2005's Alpine Static, the album where it perfected its early-'70s heavy-rock steez; the character-free vocals on a handful of the cuts seem like add-ons to a style with little need for embellishment. And tracks like "Silent Biker Type," with its slow-simmering beginning, drag down faster-burning stuff like "Boy, Was I Mad!", which is Kinski's real strength.
