Summer is coming, as it must. And with it will come the 2016 Freedom Of Rock tour, an epic, 36-city trek by veteran kabuki rockers KISS. Half of them, anyway: Of the original members, only Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are still donning the platform shoes and greasepaint these days, abetted by Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer. Running from July 7 to September 10, Freedom Of Rock represents the veteran group’s first tour of such magnitude in years. By the group’s own calculations, the tour will bring the band to more than 25 cities they haven’t visited in over a decade, as well as a handful of cities that have never before witnessed the theatrical splendor of a KISS concert. Tickets go on sale April 15 for nearly all shows, but card-carrying members of the KISS Army will be able to purchase tickets as soon as April 12.
If it helps seal the deal for anybody out there, KISS will bring American Idol champ Caleb Johnson along as an opening act during the first leg of the tour. He’ll be replaced by The Dead Daisies after that. The last year has been a rough one on rock legends of the ‘70s, so fans who have procrastinated about seeing KISS live might want to make their move soon.
