Koko the gorilla likes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, played bass with Flea

Koko is one of the most famous gorillas in the world, and she recently leveraged that popularity into an opportunity to hang out with Flea, one of the most famous members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. As reported by Rolling Stone, Flea showed her one of his bass guitars, and—much to his delight—Koko actually plucked the strings a little bit and jammed. In a video posted on the official Chili Peppers YouTube page, Flea said, “this is just the greatest thing that could ever happen. This is the day that I will never forget in my life.”

On the Gorilla Foundation’s official Koko website, it referred to Flea as “one of her favorite musicians” and added that she was “thrilled” to meet him. Koko, of course, is the gorilla who became famous for learning how to communicate with a modified version of American Sign Language, while Flea is the guy who was in the Back To The Future sequels and is also a beekeeper. Over the years, Koko has met multiple celebrities and expressed a deep appreciation for tiny kittens, and apparently now she’s on record as a fan of funky, California-themed rock music.

The Gorilla Foundation also teased that there may be “future collaborations” between Koko and Flea, but that could be a joke. It’s a little hard to tell when the story is about a guy named Flea meeting a talking gorilla.

Two videos of Flea and Koko are below, along with a touching Instagram photo.
