Konami announces release date, partial song list for Def Jam Rapstar

Via e-mail, Konami has announced a release date of October 5 for Def Jam Rapstar, the Rock Band-aping interactive hip-hop game that allows even the wackest among us to be an MC, no deals with Cash Money required. The forthcoming title will be bundled with one wired microphone and will be playable on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii, and in addition to rapping along to its extensive list of pre-programmed songs (see below), players can also play—and haters can also hate—in Freestyle mode, adding their own lyrics to instrumental beats provided by producers like Just Blaze and DJ Premier. Those wanting to take it a step further can also hook up a console camera and record their own hip-hop music video, then upload it to the Rapstar website to show off their “swagnificance,” which is a word we’re going to start using more often, beginning today.

The list of playable songs confirmed so far:

2Pac, “I Get Around”
50 Cent, “I Get Money”
Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg, “Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang”
Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx, “Gold Digger”
Lil’ Wayne, “A Milli”
The Notorious B.I.G., “Juicy”
Slick Rick, “Children’s Story”
T.I. featuring Rihanna, “Live Ya Life”
Wu-Tang Clan, “C.R.E.A.M.”
Young Jeezy featuring Kanye West, “Put On”
Biz Markie, “Just A Friend”
Drake, “Best I Ever Had”
Ice Cube, “It Was A Good Day”
Outkast, “So Fresh So Clean”
Pete Rock and CL Smooth, “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)”
Redman and Method Man, “Da Rockwilder”
Salt-N-Pepa, “Push It”
Chunky A, “Owww!”

Okay, we added that last one.

Should the game prove to be a success, we’re blah blah blah obvious joke about Def Jam Comedystar, where players can do their own versions of routines about why bitches always be acting all crazy, like damn.
