This summer’s Comic-Con trailer for the upcoming Kong: Skull Island played coy with its titular giant ape, relegating him to quick glimpses and primate implications. Tonight, though, the King is ready to reign, with Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment debuting a full trailer for the film on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
It turns out, though, that the biggest surprise in the trailer isn’t the massive, roaring gorilla. (If we’re being honest, we were kind of expecting to see that in a movie titled Kong.) Instead, it’s John C. Reilly, who seems to be channeling a little bit of Dr. Steve Brule as the guy welcoming Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Goodman to an island full of man-eating monsters and “Skull Crawlers.” (He’s also not crazy about that name.)
