If you play the wildly addicting mobile app Neko Atsume, then you know it’s mostly a waiting game. You leave out food and toys and then go about your day, checking back here and there to see which of the game’s lengthy roster of cats have paid you a visit. If you don’t play Neko Atsume, then the appeal of the game is probably hard to grasp. But trust us: It’s good. And now there’s a perfect way to pass the time between food-bowl refills and waiting on the rare cats to show up: Cats Meok Bang. According to The Verge, Cats Meok Bang is a live-streamed stray cat reality show in South Korea that is, essentially, a real-life version of Neko Atsume.
Koo Eun-je started the live stream channel so that he and his wife could keep an eye on the stray cats that he feeds. Soon, other people started tuning in. On some days, there can be up to 17 cats on Cats Meok Bang. Sometimes there’s just one, like when Tubbs comes to the yard on Neko Atsume and pushes all the other cats away. Devout viewers have even started sending in cat food and other donations to help keep the live stream active. As far as we know, no one has sent in a pancake-shaped plush cushion, an art deco cat tree, or a sunken fireplace. But it does look like the cats have a slide—a goodie that should definitely exist in Neko Atsume. Isn’t it about time for an expansion pack?
Much like Neko Atsume, you can’t actually engage with or pet the cats, but it’s just nice to know that they’re there. As of now, the live stream is only available in Korea, but fans have uploaded their favorite moments on YouTube.
