Krampus’ Michael Dougherty might be directing Godzilla 2
Krampus director Michael Dougherty might be about to go up an order of movie monster magnitude. Earlier this week, news broke that Dougherty and his Christmas-horror co-writer Zach Shields would be penning the script for the upcoming Godzilla 2. Now, Screen Crush reports that Dougherty is also in talks to direct the film, taking over for Gareth Edwards, who left the franchise to take on this December’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Godzilla 2 is an important part of Legendary Entertainment’s current plans to get itself one of those trendy cinematic universes, acting as a bridge to the planned Skull Island crossover Godzilla Vs. Kong, scheduled for 2020. Dougherty is best known as a screenwriter, having written big-budget comic book features like Superman Returns and X-Men 2, but he also got behind the camera for Krampus, as well as the horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat. This’ll be his first time taking the reins of a 9-figure-budget blockbuster.
