Kristen Bell launches new campaign for Veronica Mars movie
Having recognized the Internet’s awesome power to revive things many people thought were already dead, Kristen Bell followed the example of her You Again co-star Betty White and took to her Twitter account last night to begin drumming up interest anew in a possible Veronica Mars movie. “Mars fans-can we bug @wbpictures & tell em [they] must do a VM film?? new tactic. bombard em w/tweets, theres evidence of fans they cant ignore,” she wrote, later adding, “WB says their research shows the movie wont have an audience. i disagree. currently figuring out how to show them.” As of today, her effort to prove Warner Bros. wrong by calling on supporters to “send petitions & any obsessive [behavior] u have” has resulted in the @wbpictures page “dripping with VM demands,” the formation of this petition with nearly 8,000 signatures, and this Facebook group with close to 15,000 members. It's not quite "Can this pickle get more fans than Twilight?" yet, but it's a start.
The prospect of a Veronica Mars movie has been kicking around pretty much since the series went off the air, with creator Rob Thomas pitching an idea to the studio as recently as last year. At the time, his script involved Mars still in the midst of “the college years”—a story that grows less plausible the older its cast gets, hence the urgency of Bell’s campaign. So if that’s something you want to see (or you’re just tired of seeing Thomas' dreams crushed), now is probably your best and last chance to speak up. [HT to Vulture]
