Kristen Wiig was “bummed out” by the Ghostbusters backlash
Here on the internet, it can be easy to forget that the people we interact with are actually, you know, people. That also applies to celebrities, and some internet users may be surprised to find out that they have emotions just like us normals. Case in point, Kristen Wiig says the annoying, predominantly misogynistic backlash that hit Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot “really bummed [her] out” (via Variety). She says it didn’t make her mad, it was just “surprising” that people would get so upset over the very idea of an all-female team of Ghostbusters.
That makes us think Wiig isn’t very familiar with the internet in general, so there’s actually something we can all learn from this terrible incident. For Kristen Wiig: Don’t let the horrible internet men get you down. Eventually, the increased stress their bodies take on from hating female Ghostbusters and black Star Wars protagonists will cause their hearts to give out, and then we’ll be rid of them. For the horrible internet men: Maybe don’t be so horrible? Seriously, this shtick gets tiring. Finally, for the people who hate the idea of a Ghostbusters reboot for reasons that have nothing to do with misogyny: Are you sure? Make sure to let us know in the comments if you’re sure. (Also, yes, we’re aware of the irony here in that we just advocated for treating people like people, but now we’re making jokes about people’s opinions.)
Anyway, Wiig and the other Ghostbusters responded to the haters back in August, and they probably still stand by their declaration of the unstoppable might of #GirlPower.
