Kristi Yamaguchi to Dancing With The Stars’ Nancy Kerrigan: “Break a leg”

The 24th season of Dancing With The Stars kicked off this week, and among the current round of celebrity competitors like Mr. T and Charo is ice-skater Nancy Kerrigan. The two-time Olympic medalist is most famous for her fierce rivalry with fellow skater Tonya Harding, which culminated in Harding’s husband orchestrating an attack on Kerrigan weeks before the 1994 Olympic games. Kerrigan recovered from the attack to take home the silver that year.

Kerrigan isn’t the first ice-skater to compete on Dancing With The Stars: Olympic gold-medalist Kristi Yamaguchi was the long-running series’ champion in season six. In the spirit of comradeship (we can only hope), Yamaguchi tweeted the following regarding Kerrigan’s DWTS debut:

Yamaguchi appears to have forgotten that Kerrigan’s 1994 attack was on her leg, specifically, a police baton clubbing on her knees, making this likely well-meant message a bit awkward. At least it has resulted in a variety of funny side-eye and spit-take responses on Twitter. Enjoy before it probably all gets taken down:
