Kumail Nanjiani is voicing a “space frog” in Mass Effect: Andromeda
Video game developer BioWare is making a big marketing push for its upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda, the latest game in its far-flung space exploration series. Earlier today, the studio released a pretty wide-ranging look at the game’s acrobatic combat, showing off all matter of Krogan hammers, class skills, and other ways to keep the universe safe for humanity’s efforts at intergalactic colonization:
But while there’s something very pleasant about all this space murder and explosion-making, BioWare offered up a different flavor of fan service a few days ago, announcing that longtime Mass Effect fan Kumail Nanjiani would voice a character in the new game. Nanjiani—who’s developed a real knack for sneaking into franchises he’s already obsessed with—will be playing a “space frog” in the game, which is apparently how space racists refer to members of the fan-favorite Salarian species. Nanjiani described his character as “sort of a weaselly guy” who means well but is in over his head, suggesting that BioWare’s writers are at least somewhat familiar with the Silicon Valley star’s usual routine.
Mass Effect: Andromeda hits stores on March 21; meanwhile, Nanjiani’s new film, The Big Sick, will arrive in theaters this summer.
