Kurt Sutter’s new project is a comic about nuns and ammo
With Sons Of Anarchy and The Bastard Executioner now in his rearview mirror, Kurt Sutter’s found a new project to pour his aggression into. Although he won’t have much to do with the Sons’ spin-off that will center on their biker peers, the Mayans, he’s still keeping things in the outlaw family with a comic-book series about nuns with guns. Deadline reports he’s teamed up with Boom! Comics for Sisters Of Sorrow, a new comic about “four women, all victims of violent crimes, who unite to exact revenge on their perpetrators.”
Sutter says he’s wanted to “create a mythology around kick-ass female characters,” a storyline he deems “more important than ever” in the current sociopolitical climate. The Sisters Of Sorrow are community activists and vigilantes, who wear “bulletproof black leather” under their habits and carry all the latest weapons, because why not. It actually doesn’t sound like a terrible idea; MTV has a similar thing going with Sweet/Vicious. And the comic-book format should allow Sutter to get as melodramatic as he wants without requiring Katey Sagal to clone herself or act opposite three other versions of herself in front of a green screen. The comic will debut at next year’s San Diego Comic Con.
