Kutiman masterfully stitches together amateur YouTubers for “Give It Up”
Kutiman popped in to the music scene back in 2008, when his self-titled debut album was something of a critical darling. Back then, Ophir Kutiel was just a one-man band who occasionally featured friends in his songs. The next year he ditched his own samples and released ThruYOU, a virtual album made up solely of snippets from unrelated YouTube videos, and whose songs promptly went viral. Now Kutiman is back with a new “album,” ThruYOU Too, and the Tel Aviv artist has masterfully honed his skills. “Give It Up” is the first of six new videos that Kutiman will be premiering over the coming days. ThruYOU Too will be available here in full on October 1. “Give It Up” has a more soulful and groovy presence than Kutiman’s previous efforts, and its composition is fittingly reminiscent of fellow mix-and-match artist Pogo.
