Kyle Mooney is hilarious as a constantly-cut SNL cast member in new cut-for-time sketch

The “cut” Saturday Night Live sketch has, over the past few years, turned into a vessel for the offbeat humor of Kyle Mooney, the show’s weirdest and most reliable current cast member. His bizarre sketches, many of them evoking the sitcoms of yore, are routinely funnier and more creative than anything on the main show, and his latest is no different.

In it, Mooney stars as Adam Zekeman, a new, unseen cast member who, in his first season, hasn’t been able to score a second of meaningful screen time. Blame his dorky accents or lame ideas—“stoner cowboy” is his best joke—but Mooney’s insane inflections and palpable sense of longing turn Adam into a doofus that’s easy to root for. “Looks really funny,” he muses while watching rehearsals for a sketch from which he was axed, his earnestness as funny as it is genuinely sad.

Watch it above.
