Lady Gaga sinks the Bradley Cooper shippers and shows off her Oscar on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Along with thanks to host Jimmy Kimmel for his recent donation to her Born This Way Foundation, newly minted Oscar winner brought a large, bulging black bag onto the Jimmy Kimmel Live! set on Wednesday. Asked what was in the ominous-looking thing, Gaga rummaged, deadpanning, “Well, it’s been quite a week,” before placing her Oscar for Best Original Song on Kimmel’s desk. Point, Gaga, especially since she waved off Kimmel’s joke gift of some tiny Oscar underpants for the perpetually nude statuette, proclaiming, “Don’t shame him—he’s naked and it’s okay.”
Kimmel asked his guest about the show-stopping performance of her song “Shallow” at Sunday’s Oscars alongside co-star and A Star Is Born director Bradley Cooper, which, as Kimmel noted, has had the internet doing its thing regarding a possible real-life romance between the onscreen star-crossed duo. Rolling her eyes immediately, Gaga dismissed that noise and told everyone to get a life, essentially. “Social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the internet, and what it’s done to pop culture is abysmal,” she began, patiently explaining to those goo-goo-eyed Gaga-Cooper shippers out there, “People saw love and, guess what, that’s what we wanted you to see.”
Not that Gaga wasn’t effusive in her praise for Cooper’s skills, behind and in front of the camera—and with a guitar in his hand. “Bradley a musician,” stated the multiple Grammy winner definitively, “My favorite thing about the whole experience was I was just so excited for people, not only at home, but, you know, our peers in the room to see him sing live.” Noting that Cooper is re-releasing a 12-minutes-extended cut of A Star Is Born to theaters for a week starting this Friday, the singer and actress prodded everyone who can’t get enough of the onscreen couple’s romance to check that out. (A clip showed Cooper’s Jack and Gaga’s Ally canoodling while writing a song together, if that’s your bag.) But, just to reiterate that whole “get a life” thing, Gaga explained, one more time, “I’m an artist and I guess we did a good job, and—fooled ya.”
