Fans of one the best animation studios in business today are in luck. LAIKA, the studio responsible for the animated films Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls, is digging into its vaults and pulling out over 250 puppets, models, props, and art for a limited auction next month in Beverly Hills.
The Art of LAIKA will feature an array of handcrafted works from each film, including production puppets of the main characters from each film, intricate large-scale production props like ParaNorman’s “Zombie Attack” vending machine, and hand-drawn character designs. If you’re feeling especially ambitious, the studio is also auctioning off Snatcher’s Mecha-Drill from The Boxtrolls, which, at over five feet high, is the largest prop ever created for a stop-motion film. A portion of the proceeds will go to The Art of Elysium, a non-profit that provides arts workshops and activities for critically ill children.
