Latest Gotham trailer introduces its pre-Batman villains

We’re not entirely sure what the point is of teasing the super-criminals that “a little girl” or “a low-level thug” will become when it probably won’t happen for decades, but that’s still the position this latest trailer for Fox’s Batman prequel Gotham is taking. “It’s up to us to stop them,” Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon dramatically proclaims, but considering that we know exactly what happens to that little girl and low-level thug, the odds of them being stopped by him or Donal Logue’s Harvey Bullock aren’t very good.

As for Jada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooney, a character that’s new to the Batman mythology, we’d say Gotham’s police force has a pretty good chance of taking her down. She doesn’t really have a gimmick as strong as the city’s other villains—which means she also doesn’t have their staying power—but maybe over the course of the series she’ll start pulling exclusively fish-related crimes and become just as famous as The Penguin and Catwoman.

We’ll know for sure when Gotham premieres on Fox later this year.
